GuateFriends Bed & Breakfast began in 2005 to meet the needs of backpackers, business people, small groups, families, and missionaries traveling throughout Guatemala. We are not the typical B&B, nor Hostel. We are a combination of both.

(Before we opened GuateFriends, we traveled throughout Guatemala staying at various B&B’s and Hostels getting ideas and deciding what we should include and exclude (the good and the not so good) in our own business based on what we experienced. We asked a lot of questions to business owners and their guests and after many months, finally came up with a list of ideas we felt most represented the best in Guatemalan hospitality and décor. We included this with our own knowledge of the hotel / hospitality and restaurant industry and opened in November 2005.)

We love conversation, good foods and good company in the setting of Guatemalan ambiance and constantly strive to impart this to our guests on every level throughout their stay with us. During our travels in Guatemala we noticed that most hostels and B&B’s provide only minimal “breakfasts,” (coffee, sweet bread & dry cereals or eggs & beans.) This may be adequate for some, but our experience in the past 3 years has proved that most people prefer a variety of foods and since we cater to guests from all over the world and not just Guatemala, often times eggs and beans just aren’t sufficient. Our new menu has all of the favorite dishes that we have served to our guests and great care has been taken to ensure that every meal is nutritious; served with only Organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible and the highest degree of hygiene is used in preparation. We also prepare lunch and dinner, something that is often times necessary, but is conceptually unrealized by B&B and hostel owners here in Guatemala.

Our primary focus is of course our guests while they stay with us, but we also like to provide broad-based information about where to stay and what to do when traveling in Guatemala. We have many friends throughout the country who are reputable and honest. We can even help you to avoid the usual high transit costs for tourists by finding low-priced taxi’s and tour buses that most travelers know little about. Most people believe that a company who does the most advertising is the best, but unfortunately here in Guatemala that is not always true.

Whether a backpacker, family, on business, or a group (up to 22 persons); you have a place with us. GuateFriends wants each person who stays with us to feel as if they never left home and that they are in the company of friends. This objective is seldom realized and rarely achieved here in Guatemala among B&B owners, hostels or hotels.
